Learning About The Author Of
“Unexpected Interruptions”
by Da Vinci

Da Vinci: First I would like to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this novel I think it covers issues that can be a bit taboo in society today

Trice Hickman:
My Pleasure, Absolutely!

Da Vinci:
What Inspired you to write Unexpected Interruptions?

Trice Hickman:
I initially wanted to write a book about the best friend/platonic relationship between a black man & black woman, but it quickly turned into something else, so I went with it because the motions felt right.

Da Vinci:
well those motions definitely paid off, not many stories, movies, etc, cover Black women being with white men. Is interracial dating something you have personally tried?

Trice Hickman:
I’ve had relationships with with men of other races, but I never allowed it to go to the point that my character’s relationship went to, intimately.

Da Vinci:
Understandable, so would you say that you were channeling through Victoria? or was this pure fiction? lol

Trice Hickman:
Ah, good question. The safe answer is pure fiction…

Da Vinci:
lol, of course

Trice Hickman:
I loved writing about her situation with being torn between two men. It’s something I’ve experienced, and I’m sure many other women have too!

Da Vinci:
Is this your first novel?

Trice Hickman:
Yes, Unexpected Interruptions is my debut

Da Vinci:
Okay sounds great, I have to say the book was VERY well written, you’re use of adjectives made me feel like I was able to picture it all, however why did you choose to end the book so abruptly?

Trice Hickman:
Thank you for that compliment. I think the book ended the way it needed to for the character’s sake. There was so much drama she went through along her journey, so she ended at a point of resolution…there’s a sequel that will pick up six years down the road.

Da Vinci:
lol, I figured…I loved the ending but I was a little thrown off by the way it switched up from the dream to the ending…not trying to give too much away

Trice Hickman:
Yes, I understand. Love is complicated, and this character’s emotions bounced back and forth. The dream was a window into her thinking. There were still unresolved feelings she had.

Da Vinci:
Are you currently working on the sequel? and is there anyway we can get a preview of what is to come?

Trice Hickman:
The sequel will be my third book. It picks up six years down the road in the lives of the main characters. It’s filled with twists. I’m half-way finished with it now and I’m enjoying it!

Da Vinci: Very Nice, It’s great to see you achieving such success, I hope you’ll send me a copy of both your newest novels.

Trice Hickman:
Of course. That’s a definite!! The second book will be released in Feb. 09.

Da Vinci:
So, what’s your 2nd Novel called, about, etc? give us some juicy details, lol

Trice Hickman:
It’s called, “What’s Done In the Dark.” It’s about two women who are best friends, and one betrays the other in a devastating way.

Da Vinci:
Sounds like another winner, Okay back to the main novel at hand, Unexpected Interruptions…I like how you repeated the theme throughout the novel, what do you want readers to learn and take away from this novel?

Trice Hickman:
That life is wonderfully imperfect, and great things happen when you least expect them to. What some see as an interruption is really life taking its own course.

Da Vinci:
Wow, I think that’s something I can definitely relate to. Where can we buy the book? and How can fans reach you?

Trice Hickman:
Glad you asked!! The book is available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Books-A-Million. Fans (yeah!!!) can reach me at www.tricehickman.com or at www.myspace.com/tricehickman

Da Vinci:
Sounds great, what are your favorite blogs, websites, or magazines?

n style=”font-size:100%;”>
Trice Hickman:
I love Da Vinci’s Blog, of course!! And Connie Briscoe has a good one. I get a lot of info. from literary websites like AALBC, RAWSISTAZ, BookRemarks, APOOO & SistahFriend. I absolutely love Essence magazine and O Magazine.

Da Vinci:
That’s a great variety, anyone you’d like to thank?

Trice Hickman:
There are so many…you are first on the list for reaching out and supporting me! Marissa Montielh, Troy Johnson, Linda Duggins, Tee Royal, Ella Curry, Yasmin Coleman, and so many more. These are people who’ve supported me on my literary journey.

Da Vinci:
Da Vinci’s Blog Log is very grateful to have had the opportunity to review Unexpected Interruptions, being that it’s a debut novel we can understand that it’s your baby so we’re very honored to cover it for Aprils book of the month.
